Employee engagement just hit a 20-year low.
Gallup's 2026 State of the Global Workplace report found global engagement dropped to 20% in 2025 - its lowest point since 2020 and costing the world economy an estimated $10 trillion in lost productivity.
Corporate leaders are noticing. And event planners are the ones being asked to fix it.
Here's what's actually working in 2026:
𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗸𝘀 CSR isn't a nice-to-have anymore — it's often the reason the event exists. Pair a give-back activity with something high-energy and you double the value of every budget dollar.
𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 Departments of 10–20 people aren't waiting for the company-wide offsite. They're creating their own moments of connection — no big budget required.
𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Wireless buzzers. Big screens. A host who can actually read a room. Production value isn't decoration — it's what keeps 200+ people locked in.
𝗔𝗜 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 The "AI vs. no AI" conversation is over. By the end of 2026, the winning events won't advertise the AI behind personalized agendas and session recs — attendees just won't notice it's there.
𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 In-person-only is starting to feel incomplete. Expect 75%+ of corporate events to carry a hybrid component by year's end.
𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗶𝗻, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 Movement breaks. Mindfulness moments. Catering that energizes instead of a 2pm crash. It's baked into the agenda, not an afterthought.
The old playbook — book a room, order some sandwiches, call it culture — doesn't cut it anymore.
The planners who win in 2026 are the ones designing for connection, not just attendance.
